Articles basically modify nouns.
The is used to refer to a specific noun (Definite Article) أداة التعريف ; An-a is used to non- specific nouns (Indefinite Article)أداة التنكير.
For example: lets go to the library
.لنذهب الى المكتبة
That means we are going to a specific library .هذا يعني أننا سنذهب الى مكتبة معينة ومعروفة
Lets go to a library .لنذهب الى مكتبة
This means That we are going to any library. هذا يعني اننا سوف نذهب الى مكتبة ما دون التحديد
Using A or An
Articles are used with singular nouns تستخدم مع الاسماء المفردة
Using both articles depends on the sound that begins the second word تستخدم على حسب أول صوت أوحرف في الكلمة التي تليها
-an beginning with a vowel (a, e, i , o, u) تأتي اذا بدأت الكلمة التي تليها بأحد الخمس أحرف المذكورة
For Example:
an elephant; an egg; an apple; an idiot; an address
-a beginning with a consonant بداية الكلمة التي تليها يحرف ساكن
For example:
a boy; a car; a bike; a zoo; a dog
* we use "An hour" because h is silent
